چکیده

Abstract Cereals have been the basis of human and animal nutrition for centuries, according to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (2020), between 1961-2019 their global production increased by +240%, reaching about 3 billion tons, accounting 18% climate-changing emissions from agro-food sector. Continued population growth will lead need produce more food, keep up it is estimated that cereal increase 900 million tons 2050, posing an inevitable in environmental pressures. Therefore, new challenge be reconcile with sustainable agricultural practices, line Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Since essential globally relevant commodities, important assess study its associated effects. In this context, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) recognized international scientific community as a useful tool assessment impacts caused products, processes or systems validation paradigms. aim research carry out overview literature most recent applications LCA related cereals, order highlight main criticalities, also different methods various Countries. three major cereals (corn, wheat rice) five minor ones (barley, sorghum, millet, oats rye) were considered results showed all crops hotspot application use fertilizers. However, studies often differed terms functional unit, impact methods, respective indicators. complete comparison was not always possible. Food Polymeric Packaging Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Food packaging is used to maintain the safety and quality of food during distribution and storage and to protect them from adverse internal and external conditions, such as water vapor, spoilage due to microorganisms, moisture, light, and dust. In this regard, lots of research studies have been done to increase shelf life, safety, and quality to create suitable physico...

Use of the life-cycle assessment (LCA) toolbox for an environmental evaluation of production processes*

Green chemistry not only emphasizes the central production process of the “green” chemical, but it ultimately requires a life-cycle conceptual approach for each chemical product. A life-cycle conceptual approach comprises the consideration of all stages along the life cycle of a chemical (i.e., raw material extraction, pre-production, production, use, recycling, and disposal) as well as the con...

Life Cycle Assessment (lca) of Nanomaterials: a Comprehensive Approach

LCA is a suitable method to assess the environmental performance of nanotechnology-based products, although challenges remain due to uncertainties and data gaps. LEITAT participates in different European projects, such as NANOMICEX, NANOPOLYTOX, NEXTEC, EUROTAPES and NANOSOLUTIONS, which contribute in filling in these gaps. Selected representative nanotechnology-based products were modelled, in...

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of an Integrated Biomass Gasification Combined Cycle (IBGCC) with CO2 removal

Basing on results of previous studies, the efficiency of a Brayton/Hirn combined cycle, fuelled with a clean syngas produced by means of biomass gasification and equipped with CO2 removal by chemical absorption, resulted 33.94%, considering also the separated CO2 compression process. The specific CO2 emission of the power plant was 178 kg/MWh. In comparison with values previously found for an I...

Proposal of Environmental Impact Assessment Method for Concrete in South Korea: An Application in LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)

This study aims to develop a system for assessing the impact of the substances discharged from concrete production process on six environmental impact categories, i.e., global warming (GWP), acidification (AP), eutrophication (EP), abiotic depletion (ADP), ozone depletion (ODP), and photochemical oxidant creation (POCP), using the life a cycle assessment (LCA) method. To achieve this, this stud...
